A live performance that bridges the raw, chaotic energy of the physical electromagnetic environment with the synthetic reconstruction of planetary phenomena. Performing with an array of analog, shortwave, high-frequency wave receivers, and wireless detectors, Zapparoli captures real-time, localized electromagnetic radiation, radio interference, and radio noise directly from the venue’s immediate environment. In addition to that, she will use self-made recordings of VLF (Natural Radio Phenomena) and radio waves transposed onto tapes. Aubry utilizes custom-built Max/MSP patches and modular synthesis to model natural radio phenomena—such as sferics, whistlers, tweeks, and geomagnetic chorus emissions. The result is a high-voltage, improvised dialogue in the form of a deeply immersive acoustic environment.
